Long Bio:
Kin Lam (1993) is an experimental musician and art educator based in Hong Kong. His artistic practice delves into the physicality of sound, with a recent emphasis on low-tech DIY electronics. Kin designs and creates his own circuitry, allowing him to explore the interplay between objects, electricity, light, and sound. His diverse outputs include DIY instruments, improvisational performance, sound design, and compositions, where these DIY electronics serve as semi-controllable elements in his creative process. Recent works and performances are seen in Taiwan C-Lab’s Wandering Music Fest, Freespace Noise Fest, M+, and Soundform.
Kin views leading and teaching workshops as part of his art practice, aiming to create a community for DIY electronic music. Additional to workshops for public as well as in schools and art festivals, he was one of the 2 leading artist teachers for Contemporary Musiking Hong Kong’s《Push The ENVELOPE Sound Art Initiative》from 2023 to 2024,, where he co-created the course syllabus for sound and teaching DIY electronics. Kin is also a part-time audio lecturer at Hong Kong Baptist University.
Kin is also currently the assistant researcher and recordist for《3D Hong Kong Topophonies》and musician of the PitchBend Collective. Kin holds degrees from Sam Houston State University and School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
